CHRONICLES OF THE RED KING BOOK TRAILER

Take a look at this book trailer I animated for Brighton based Crush. The book is 'Chronicles of the Red King' by Jenny Nimmo author of the best selling 'Charlie Bone' series and is the beginning of a brand new series about Charlie's heroic ancestor.

The animation features plenty of dramatic camera swoops and some pretty cool text effects. It was a lot of fun to work on and I hope it does the job of getting young readers excited enough to go out and buy the book!

'LOSING IT' ON SET PHOTOS

Above is a couple of shots taken during the production of my promotional trailer for 'Losing It' published by Andersen Press. The trailer involved live action combined with animation, which of course was yet to be added at this stage. Below is how the same scenes looked after some digital trickery.

Watch the trailer here to see how it turned out once all the animation was finished. Photos supplied courtesy of Melissa Bramley.

'LOSING IT' BOOK TRAILER

'Losing It' is a new teen read published by Andersen Press featuring eight short stories focused around the issue of losing your virginity by eight of the best authors in teen literature today. Authors include Keith Gray, Melvin Burgess, Anne Fine, Mary Hooper, Sophie McKenzie, Patrick Ness, Jenny Valentine and Bali Rai.

The trailer that I directed and animated was shown at the book launch at Foyles in London and has also done a tour of various literature festivals around the country. The book itself has been getting great reviews from blogging sites all the way to national newspapers such as the Independent.

An alternative version of the trailer can also be seen along side the book on Amazon here.

BBC BITESIZE ENGLISH LITERATURE

In a slight break from the norm I was asked to come in to Brighton based digital agency Kanoti to help out with some graphic design.

As part of the work they were doing for BBC Bitesize, Kanoti were commissioned to create book covers for all the themes and characters for every piece of literature in the GCSE English Literature curriculum.

Here's a few examples of the pieces I worked on from the Drama 'An Inspector Calls':

NEW Home-Clubber Book

Modern Toss have released a brand new book featuring all the best Home-Clubbers including this one here:

The book is out now and available for you to buy here.

Home-Clubber appears every week in the Guardian Guide and has done since 2004, so that's well over 200 cartoon strips to chose from when putting the book together so they quality will be high, I'm sure!

One of my first jobs was to animate the Home-Clubbers for use as mobile downloads, I did over 60 of them. It was great fun trying to squeeze as much animation as I could from a single drawing, I really learned my craft doing so many of these, the trick was to communicate the original joke but to also add something to make it worth while paying for.

To celebrate the release of the book I have posted one of the episodes onto YouTube, you can view it below.

Keep a look out for it in all good book shops. Not the bad ones, they won't have it.
